Liked the most: "Helping repairs at Liverpool Library"
"I had an amazing time at B-engineering and learnt a lot from the experience I had and got to meet some of the great engineers working there. It allowed me to experience real world job sites and learn more about the industry. "
Patrick was placed with the service engineers at Liverpool Central Library, where they were conducting routine preventive maintenance on the air conditioning systems. On their second day, they arrived to find a burst pipe supplying water to a cleaner's cupboard sink in the public area.
Recognising the urgency of the situation and the potential disruption to both the public and library staff, they immediately began working on the repairs. This involved isolating the water supply, replacing the damaged section of the pipe, and installing local shut-off valves to help prevent future issues.
Throughout the process, Patrick was proactive and engaged, taking the lead on many aspects of the repair under the supervision of his mentor. His enthusiasm for the task was infectious, and it was impressive to see how eager he was to understand not just what needed to be done, but why it was necessary. After completing the repairs, he took great care to clean up all materials and waste—a vital consideration given that it was a public space.
To their delight, he went above and beyond; without any prompting, he grabbed the wet vacuum and diligently cleaned up the excess water on the carpet. This was a wonderful display of initiative and responsibility, truly embodying the spirit of the team and highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment for library visitors. Patrick's placement showcased not only his technical skills but also his commitment to providing excellent service.
His placement mentor, Mark, had this to say:
Patrick impressed me with his politeness, enthusiasm, interest, and professionalism. I am confident that he will excel in any path he decides to pursue. Wishing you all the best, Patrick.
