The issue of veteran homelessness is a pressing concern that reflects broader societal challenges in providing adequate support for those who have served in the military. It becomes evident that a significant portion of the homeless population consists of veterans who face difficulties in transitioning to civilian life.
Research indicates that approximately 3-6% of the homeless demographic comprises these individuals, yet this figure may be an understatement, as numerous veterans go uncounted in official homelessness statistics. This alarming reality highlights the urgent need for improved resources and support systems dedicated to helping our veterans reintegrate into society.

Corporal Andy Reid MBE, a triple amputee veteran who has firsthand experience with the complexities of adjusting to civilian life, is equipped with a unique understanding of the pressures and stresses faced by individuals in our communities. This includes tackling pressing issues such as homelessness, mental health challenges, and job loss. Dedicated to making a difference, Andy dedicates his time and resources to support those in need, offering grants, counseling, and essential items to individuals facing financial hardships. In addition to this, he has invested in a 4-bedroom property, which he plans to transform into a HMO with en-suite facilities for homeless veterans.
When Director Rob Ditchfield heard about the project, he was moved to support the cause in any way he could:
“When I looked into the foundation, Andy’s inspirational story and the work they do, I had no doubt that we wanted to support Andy on the HMO project. At B-engineering, we proudly uphold the armed forces covenant and have the privilege of having several ex-forces members on our team.
Our mission, vision, and values align so much with what the foundation is achieving, that it was a natural choice for us to form this invaluable partnership. We aim to support Andy not only on this project, but for many future projects to continue the amazing impact he is making.”

The installation project encompasses several key enhancements aimed at improving the living conditions for residents. First, the installation of new boilers and heating systems introduces energy-efficient solutions that significantly enhance comfort, which is essential for the overall well-being and recovery of the individuals living here. Additionally, comprehensive plumbing work has led to the creation of three new en-suite bathrooms, further elevating the quality of life for veterans.

To ensure safety and adherence to modern standards, a full rewiring of the house has been carried out, addressing the diverse needs of future occupants. Lastly, the design and installation of solar photovoltaic systems incorporate renewable energy solutions, effectively reducing energy costs while promoting sustainability. Together, these upgrades create a more comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly living environment.
As we continue to support our veterans through this renovation project, we remain committed to creating a brighter future for those who have selflessly served our country.
Together, we can ensure that no veteran is left behind!
