The B-engineering team recently went to the Thorlux Lighting factory, a British company renowned for its professional lighting systems, as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency regarding our suppliers. The tour provided valuable insights into their operations, the integration of new technologies, and their efforts to enhance eco-friendliness.

Founded in 1936 and part of the FW Thorpe Plc group, Thorlux Lighting has offices in the UK, Germany, Ireland, Australia, and the UAE. Their history and continuous drive for innovation have gained them a glowing reputation and strong name in the lighting world, making and designing high-quality lighting solutions for businesses, factories, and buildings.
Thorlux has been carbon neutral since 2012 because they have strong policies for measuring, lowering, and offsetting emissions. They don't just tick a box when it comes to sustainability; it's a part of how they do business. The company is committed to cutting carbon emissions. Since 2009, it has planted more than 179,412 native broad-leaf trees, which have absorbed more than 44,385 tonnes of CO₂e emissions over 100 years.
In line with the Science-Based Targets program (SBTi), Thorlux has promised to have net-zero emissions by 2040. As many business owners struggle to meet the EPC standards, Thorlux are ahead of the game and leads by example. Here are some things they plan to do:
By the year 2030, emissions from Scope 1 and 2 will be 42% lower.
By 2030, emissions from Scope 3 will be 51.6% lower for every million pounds in sales.
There will be a 90% drop in overall emissions by 2040, with only a 10% increase.
Solar Power and Saving Energy
One of the most impressive aspects of our tour was the solar photovoltaic system at their Redditch office. The system started working in 2019, but by 2022, it had grown to include 3,138 high-performance panels that make more than 1 million kWh of electricity a year. This project cuts their carbon footprint by 266 tonnes a year and the system is expected to save more than £14 million over its lifetime.
Our trip to Thorlux has confirmed our selection as a supplier. Their dedication to the environment, drive to continually improve the sustainability of their product and extensive investment in pro-environmental initiatives align with our own goals as a company.
