How Will Green Week Impact Greater Manchester Colleges and the Surrounding Community?

Green Week is currently underway, running from March 17th to 21st, and is proving to be a transformative initiative for Greater Manchester Colleges (GMC). Each of the five participating sites is hosting a dedicated day, providing a unique opportunity for colleges, businesses, and the community to unite around the vital goal of environmental sustainability.

One of the activities involved litter picking, offering participants a hands-on chance to clean up their local areas. Four members from the B-engineering team (Leah, Rob, John and Sarah) collaborated with the Trafford & Stockport College Group to collectively gather waste in the local community.

In total, they gathered an impressive 47.5kg of waste, enhancing the area's aesthetics and protecting local wildlife by preventing harmful pollutants from entering waterways and local parks.

Additionally, wildlife received a new habitat with the collective planting of 6 new trees in the area. This initiative contributed to a healthier ecosystem and community green space, with the trees promoting a more carbon-friendly environment. B-engineering, having previously worked with the college to improve sustainability via internal and external LED systems, was eager to participate in a community-focused project that benefited the broader community and strengthened their relationship with the college.

At present, B-engineering is collaborating with the school to enhance campus lighting through energy-efficient LED solutions. This initiative aligns with the school's mission to promote sustainability and reduce its carbon footprint, and we are honoured to be chosen once again to support the college's needs.
