A school in Congleton, East Cheshire, is now harnessing the power of the sun thanks to a new solar panel installation, made possible through a partnership between the Dane Valley Community Energy (DCVE) and B-engineering. Completed over the Easter holidays, the project is a big step forward in making local educational facilities more sustainable and affordable.
The solar panels are expected to save the school thousands of pounds each year, with those savings being reinvested into educational resources, technology, and extracurricular programs. But the benefits go far beyond the financial. The initiative also gives students a hands-on learning experience in renewable energy, helping to shape a generation that’s more aware of environmental challenges and solutions.

The project was officially unveiled on May 23rd, with local MP Sarah Russel attending the grand opening. Her presence underscored the importance of the initiative, and she praised the school and its partners for leading the way in sustainability.
“I know the project will inspire the next generation of green champions. I am very proud to be part of a government that is meeting communities where they are and following their lead.” - see her speech in parliament here:

As more schools consider renewable energy, the success of this project could spark a wider movement across the region. By embracing clean energy, schools not only cut costs but also become powerful advocates for sustainability, inspiring students and the wider community to think greener.
