Boiler Plus is a UK government regulation introduced in April 2018 as part of Building Regulations (Par L) to improve energy efficiency in both domestic and commercial heating systems. It applies to new and replacement gas boilers installed in England.
By law, boilers will require:

Time and Temperature Control
Each installation is required to include programmable timers and thermostats, allowing homeowners to effectively manage their heating schedules and temperature settings.
Energy-Saving Measures for Combi Boiler
When installing a combi boiler, it's essential to incorporate one extra energy efficiency feature from the following options:
Flue Gas Heat Recovery System
The system captures the gases that would otherwise be lost through the chimney to preheat the water entering the boiler and reduces the energy needed for heating.
Weather Compensation The boiler adjusts its performance based on outside weather conditions. Sensors are placed on the outside of the home that feed information back to the internal thermostat. This information is then used to adjust the internal temperature.
Load Compensation This system aligns the boiler's output with the property's heating requirements. It compares the actual room temperature to the desired temperature and adjusts the boiler to deliver the necessary heat level, providing the building owner with an additional layer of control.
What's the Purpose of Boiler Plus?
The regulation aims to reduce carbon emissions, lower energy costs, and provide property owners with an enhanced, multilayered control over their heating systems. This is part of the UK's broader strategy to enhance sustainability and achieve climate targets.
