Mechanical Estimator

Full-time, Permanent

Playing a critical part in the continued growth of the business through your client-facing role, you will being responsible for managing and prioritising your workload, ensuring that the information you are responsible for is captured in the systems and communicated to the client in a timely fashion, to the highest standards. This role requires a strong understanding of live HVAC systems and working in live buildings and requires a person with an eye for detail to analyse all available information to determine accurate materials, labour, plant, and equipment costs for works in the region of £10k to £200k. Job Summary:


  • Being proficient with all B-engineering product offerings

  • Identifying system faults and understanding a solution and then transposing this into a quotation for our client.

  • Produce accurate and timely estimates within agreed timescales and monitoring quote acceptance with client.

  • Receive client enquiries and maintain communication throughout the sales cycle and updating the business through the CRM.

  • Conducting site surveys to the highest standards and, or reviewing desktop information to develop quotes, identify issues with existing plant on site and propose a suitable solutions.

  • Ability to review drawings, specifications, and documentation to assist in preparing quotes and support in developing larger estimates.

  • Carry out takeoffs/supply quantities of materials to enable pricing.

  • Obtain detailed quotations for products using key suppliers, sub-contractors and partners.

  • Establishing provisional programmes of works to substantiate estimates

  • Collaborating with the intercompany disciplines to create combined M&E project estimates when required.

  • Use your technical skills to support the wider estimating team & business in general.

  • Collaborate with operational teams to communicate pipeline, handover works effectively and support LFE.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors to obtain market information.

  • Build and develop client relationships to understand specific client needs and understand key drivers and discover future opportunities.

  • Support Key account management



Job Responsibilities:


  • Building relationships with client, team members and management through a polite manner and organised delivery and coordination of communications between parties, whilst representing the business the B-engineering way to our Clients and B-engineering team members.

  • To implement business processes and assign deliverables to achieve, monitor and report on progress to your manager, whilst filtering key information to operational departmental management.

  • Monitor progress through SLA’s and KPI’s and effectively communicating the status to Managers and Senior Management at requested intervals.

  • To support the mentorship and progression of the junior team members championing best working practices and the critical focus on efficient, safe and ethical ways of working.

  • Achieving key goals & objectives set by your line manager.

  • To be responsible for your part in achieving overall departmental success ,compliance and continuous improvement which meet the high standard of processes within the business.

  • You will be based at head office and visit sites as per operational requirements.

Essential Skills:


  • Working knowledge of maintaining & installing Heating, domestic water, chilled water and basic gas in live environments

  • Working knowledge of Capital plant such as boilers, pumps, chillers and ancillaries in live environments

  • NVQ Level 2 minimum in relevant HVAC qualification

  • Full Driving Licence (no major penalties)

  • Clear DBS

  • Proven work experience in the Building services industry 5 years plus

  • Good PC skills, especially estimating software systems and Microsoft office.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and team working skills


Desirable Skills:


  • Estimating experience 3 years plus

  • Formal qualification in building services engineering beneficial

  • Knowledge of low voltage power and HVAC controls beneficial

  • Experience of using CAFM/CRM systems beneficial but not essential

  • Experience of commercial gas, ventilation systems and DX air conditioning beneficial

  • Experience of renewable energy systems, mainly heat pumps beneficial. Benefits
