Case Study: LED Lighting
Trafford College is a further education college in Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. It was formed with the merger of North Trafford College and South Trafford College in 2007.
Replace the six high-level flood lights with 200W LED lights, the existing high-output lamps each consume 250W. One of these fixtures is currently non-functional, posing a potential health and safety hazard.
Project
The new LED fixtures cast a brilliant, even light over the entire perimeter, eliminating dark spots and enhancing visibility. The upgraded system not only improved safety, but also added a touch of modern elegance to the building's exterior.

The success of this lighting upgrade has prompted further discussions about additional improvements that could be made to the facility.
Plans are now underway to assess other areas where lighting efficiency and safety could be enhanced, such as in the parking lot and interior hallways.
The facilities management team is excited about the potential energy savings and the reduced maintenance costs associated with the new LED technology.
Benefits
-
LED lights are more energy-efficient than flood lights, and they provide lower energy consumption.
-
LED lights have a longer lifespan, resulting in fewer replacements and maintenance over time.
-
The images highlight the differences between flood lighting and LEDs. The brighter luminosity provides more clear camera imagery for improved security.
-
Acts as a deterrent against crime.
